ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review <3One girl, two guys...what's gonna come out of this? One hell of a fight, that's for sure.If not for some inconsistencies in the story development like who, where and when, it could be a brilliant book. Overall, I liked the twists and turns and scheming but really hated the main female character. She's just so immature and generally indecisive. What rubbed me the wrong way all along was Angel's tendency to get involved with the wrong man. From the very beginning I knew something was missing. What you get at first is the "duo turned trio"Kevin: uninhibited, tattooed bad boy, self assured of his good looks, charming toward the opposite sex. Angel's fellow student, closet businessman, cocky smartass.Roman: refined businessman and gentleman with respect towards women. Rich and old fashioned. Enjoys to chase after a girl.Stop there. Yes, I knew it. Here comes the "not-so-gentlemany" side of his. Caveman, control freak, brutal, manipulative jerk. Pure evil.Angel: The girl has a big mouth. A runaway from a wealthy family, with cravings for affection, searching for love, she self-destructively steps right into the lion's den.Why so desperately?Girl, why were you so stupid?Wasn't it enough? As the story (and past) shows, the choice was always one but when you're blinded by a good disguise of manly affection, in this case what you see is NOT what you got.Be tough I'd like to share my thoughts if you don't mind ;) It's just that I really think if only some things had been changed in the plot it could have gotten a wide and very satisfied public. What I mean is that from time to time I had to wonder and guess some details like age of the characters - I assumed Roman was a few years older than Angel and maybe Kevin. In addition I didn't quite get the image of who is who and why it's the way it is. What intrigued me is why did she choose the medic school. And Kevin, how did he get into the business? Is he related to Angel's father? To Roman maybe? I mean it's the same company and the men seemed to hate each other from the start- like they have known one another for a while. Has Roman owned the club all along or was it his cousin's and he bought it to keep tabs on Angel? When did it happen etc. What bothers me the most is that the relationship between Angel and the two men especially Roman has been moving too fast. From complete strangers they've suddenly become a thing (him with the urge to murder anyone who's a possible competition) and it seemed suspicious to me but maybe it was the author's intention to get the readers to wish things started in a slower pace so the girl could wrap her head around the whole situation.I've seen the trouble coming all along.Sorry about that. I just had to say what's on my mind. :)3.5 angsty stars

Why do girls who find themselves at the center of a love triangle act so stupid? Seriously, I’ve read so many novels lately where a girl somehow finds herself torn between two guys, stringing along either one or both of them as she attempts to make up her mind. It’s particularly frustrating to read about these heroines, wishing I could slap some sense into them before the problem explodes in their face, which it always does. When I read the blurb for Not at First by Phalla S. Rios, which noted the heroine’s position between two love interests, I knew there would be major romantic drama in store for protagonist Angel Mabbott. Despite wanting to scream obscenities at Angel on several occasions, I enjoyed the story, becoming thoroughly absorbed by its elements of mystery and romance. If Not at First taught me anything, it’s that first impressions can be very misleading. From the time Roman Conti and Kevin Hawken are first introduced to the final pages, my initial opinions of both men are drastically changed. The secrets shrouding Angel’s past are soon joined by additional veiled truths concerning the two men that suddenly appear in her life. Angel’s relationships with Roman and Kevin are simultaneously maddening and captivating – maddening because both men are incredibly vague about everything except their desire for Angel, and captivating because I needed to know which man Angel would ultimately choose. Not at First is a book that grew on me; the more I read, the more I enjoyed the story. The plot is fast-paced, gaining traction towards the final chapters leading up to the cliffhanger ending. The book is far from lacking in drama and suspense, although I would’ve liked to see more character development. Angel’s past continues to remain somewhat of a mystery and I know next to nothing about the backstories of Kevin and Roman. I hope that the author delves further into the minds of these three characters in the second novel, forgoing the vague descriptions that make up a good portion of his book in favor of providing answers to the many questions that have been left unanswered.

I got a message from the author asking if I would like to read and review their book. I read the synopsis and said sure. I will admit though I was not going into this positive that I would like it. Because if you have read my review on another love triangle you know that I am kind of not feeling them. BUT that being said I did enjoy this one more than I thought I would. There is so much that I didn't honestly know what was going to happen.Okay so, the beginning...that completely threw me. I was completely lost for a minute. I have come to understand that I do not usually care for prologues. Some give away too much, some are just pointless, some like this one confuse the hell out of me. I understand that sometimes I am slow. :) The prologue was in the point of view of a guy. SO when I got to the first chapter I thought that was the point of view I was reading from. Then I figured out that I was wrong, so I went back and started it again. I will say that both men, Kevin and Roman were infuriating! I couldn't understand what she found attractive in either one of them. Instantly I wanted to run from Roman, and I couldn't understand what she saw in him, but there is something about a man who carries himself in such a way that you know he is confident. Then you have Kevin, he was fun, even sweet at times. Others, well he was just an ass. So when you have a girl who is so broken and lost because she lost the one man she loved and adored (her father). I can see how being sucked in by either one of these two can happen. They both give something to her that make her feel.I have to say that there were so many things that Roman did that screamed RED FLAG. I just wanted to scream at her to run and run fast! But he made her feel something, something that she wanted and only he seemed to provide. Kevin was being weird with her, he wasn't stepping up at first, otherwise I am sure she would have been with him... RIGHT????? Who knows. I just know that between the two of them I was so upset and did have to put the book down at some points because I wanted to just grab her and shake her and ask... "What is wrong with you? How did you NOT see that coming?"I don't want to give away too much but let's just say that I was getting to the point where I was not looking forward to what was going to come because I thought I had an idea where it was going, then...BAM. Something I had no idea was coming. Something that had me questioning how I didn't see it. I was just at a loss and left wanting to know what the hell "that" was all about.I will read what's next because I just have to know what the hell is going to happen. I need to know more about both Roman and Kevin. Why some things were done and not done.

Intriguing from the very beginning! Angel had a rough life and after losing her father she tries to take her own life, feeling as if she has no one left to love her. Little does she know there is a mystery man irrevocable in love with her, but that was warned to stay away from her by her father. Without Dad in the picture he comes to help heal her, only she doesn't know him. She is transferred to Minneapolis to start over, begin college, and move forward. Her mystery man has came to town as well to watch over her and hopefully win her heart. Soon she finds herself in love with two men. Kevin the sexy college student hell bent on helping her study and have fun, and Roman, the sexy, sophisticated business man who makes her panties wet just by looking at him. The frustrating part is we as readers have no idea which ones of theses men is her mystery man. With the help of Angel's best friend and roommate, Lola, she decided to just enjoy each of them for now. The chemistry is off the charts between both pairs, and jealousy comes forth. She has to pick but she finds herself in a rather difficult and dangerous position. Who will she choose, and who is her mystery man?The story will keep you reading, looking for answers.

Two men, one girl caught in the middle, a love triangle unlike any other. Just when you think you've read it all, Phalla introduces us to two men who are commanding and will do anything to get the woman they love. Angel tried to kill herself two years ago. She blames herself for the death of her father and finally it's too much to bare anymore. Left in a coma at the hospital, the only family that comes to visit her is her uncle and a mysterious man. The rest of her family didn't come they still hate her, so she's left with no one. This mystery man says he loves her and will follow her wherever she goes. Her uncle tells him she's going to Minneapolis and he reveals he will follow her anywhere even it means returning to the one place he swore he would never return to.Two years later, Angel arrives in Minneapolis to live in a house with her new roommates Lola, Zoe, and Aubrey. They seem to all get along, but Lola warns not to cross Zoe or Aubrey which seems easy enough. Lola takes her to the hardware store and it's here that she meets a man that captivates her attention, she later discovers that her new lab partner in her college class is none other than the same man, Kevin. Kevin is what appears to be a tattooed bad-ass who says whatever he feels like and appears to be an overall ass. Right from the start I didn't like Kevin, but as time went on the more time he spent with Angel, the more he started to grow on me.That is until she gets to the bus stop to go home and meets a man named Roman. Roman is sweet and kind, always saying that women should be treated a certain way and showing that he's better than Kevin in any way that he can. Roman right from the start is very protective of Angel, not wanting her to ever be alone and always away from Kevin. Slowly Roman worms his way into Angel's heart, becoming her boyfriend. But while Roman commands her body, Kevin has stolen her heart. Kevin appears to be a downright ass, but he has secrets that he never reveals always telling Angel that she can ask all the questions he wants but that he will never answer. He's always open with his displays of affection towards other women, even starting to date her roommate Aubrey which for some reason bothers her more than she cares to admit. As time goes on, Roman gets more and more possessive keeping Angel away from her friends and Kevin whenever he possibly can, but Roman can't be with her all the time, frequently making trips back and forth to Italy for business. Throughout the story there was something about Roman that I couldn't put my finger on. The amount of possessiveness he displayed was almost downright scary at times. Kevin may have stolen her heart, and she may have stolen his, but both belong to another. Kevin says that Aubrey doesn't matter, that he wants to be with her but in order to do so she must choose between him and Roman. This isn't easy for Angel, and as time goes on there are so many things that complicate their situation. An accident leads Angelto remember events from her past, but will it be too late when she figures out some of the truth? Both men have secrets, both men are hiding things, but which of them is the mystery man from two years ago? This is a question that will keep you hooked and reading. Just when you think you know the answer, expect the unexpected that's all I'll say. This book had me from Oh. My. God. I want one to WTF just happened?!?!!! It was an amazing journey to the reveal of the true personality of these men. This book was nothing short of genius. This book leaves you wanting so much more and makes you wish that the next installment was out already. I know I can't wait for it, hope the wait won't be too long. But believe me ladies the wait is worth it. There's just so many things unanswered. Who are these two men beneath the surface? What happened in Angel's past to make her the way she is now? Just what will happen? The wait is going to kill me, but this book just left so many unanswered questions that I need to answers to. What a great debut for this author and look forward to reading more of this series and future work by Phalla S. Rios, 5 stars!***ARC provided by author in exchange for a honest review***

*ARC provided by Author for Honest Review*Left with a few days to torment myself over the happenings in this book I can’t help but be angry. I’ll admit I was sucked in. The writing wasn’t the best but the characters were interesting and the story kept moving at an acceptable pace. But about 75% and all hell broke loose. Literally. I can’t even explain how confused I became and at a point when most questions are answered all I got was more and more uncertainty. Basically it left me feeling pissed and confused as to why I spent so long getting to that point only to be thrown under a bus. This was no usual plot twist and even though I see tons of 5 star reviews, I however, cannot give it more than 2.There was so much uncertainty from the get-go because you don’t know which guy she is supposed to be with. Who is the mystery man that really has her best interest at heart. Of course once the guys start fighting over her, it gets a bit dicey and hot. I mean who wouldn’t like two delicious men fighting over them??? In fact I found it rather hard to even like Kevin, he was s borderline A-hole, most of the time making snarky comments and being a plain ol’ douche. Roman is also a conundrum because he is all the usual hot and domineering male leads we find but he takes giving orders to a new limit. He may give her time to think things over but in his mind he will be the victor no matter how he gets there. The characters overall were hard to get a handle on. Plain to say they all have serious mental issues. Needless to say, that was a well added addition to the story and I was entranced, wanting to see how far the crazy would go. But again, around 75% through shit turns on its head and not in a good way. Everything you thought you knew about the characters will change so dramatically that you’ll either be on board or so angry you want to go on a rampage. I was part of the latter group I’m afraid to say. Everything kept getting more and more confusing and I felt let down. I mean why read to that point and then blam, wham, and thank-you maam it’s all thrown in your face and your left a mumbling idiot. Not to mention the end… OMG, talk about sucky endings. This one had it. Ten-fold. Definite cliff-hanger so you’ve been warned on that front. And looking back I still can’t form positive feelings for either male love interest of Angel’s. I mean sure the poor girl is trying to move on from the pain of her past, but sometimes these characters need to work on themselves before starting something like a relationship with a psycho or even getting involved in a love-triangle.

Interesting right from the start. Completely not what I expected but in a good way. Phew, that was some roller coaster ride I didn't want to get off.Angel Mabbott's is from California where life is anything short of happiness. Moving to Minneapolis two years after trying to commit suicide Angel sets out to leave behind her past full of loss & pain. Determined to make something of her life she decides to enroll in college. But life has a different plan set out for her. She never expected to fall for two men at the same time. She finds herself torn between two domineering men, Kevin Hawken & Roman Conti. Kevin is a hazel eyed, tattooed bad ass who forces his way into Angel's life and is always acting like a blunt ass yet openly affectionate to her. Roman Conti, an investment firm owner, who caught her eye of all places on the sidewalk. He is everything she has ever wanted in a man: extremely handsome, kind, romantic & protective. When you think you know, you realize you really have no clue. This story just wasn't what I was expecting it was better. I know some people don't like love triangles. I, however, do. Makes for a more interesting storyline with twists & turns. Your left thinking, "Huh, who will she choose?" =) Both men have so many secrets they are hiding & not willing to share. I had a love hate relationship with both of these male characters. Kevin was an down right ass always bugging Angel like a teenage boy. I knew by his actions he was indeed in love with her. He plays tug of war with her heart as does she. You could feel the tension between them like it was coming off the pages. Oh, Roman where do I start. You are a over protective ass who is always trying to keep Angel away from her friends and Kevin. Angel's roommates made me laugh. Four girls, one house you had to know drama was bound to happen. Aubrey, Zoe & Lola: Lola is a loyal friend who stands by Angel's side whenever she needs her. Aubrey is a mean girl straight up. Spoiled & always wanting everything to be her way. Never thinking of anyone else. Zoe is just along for the ride. "Aubrey and out for them. They have a bubbly personality up front, but if you cross them, they will cut a bitch." Lola"We call pop, soda in California." Angel I just wasn't expecting the twist at the end. I was left with my mouth opened and saying, "No way!" I think I was upset at first and then a smile crept across my face. Loved the unanticipated twist!!! I can honestly say I am so looking forward to the next book and it just can't be out soon enough. I just need to know what happens next. I gave you a 4.5 star rating. (The editing needs to be better in my opinion.)*Review copy given for an honest review* Reviewer for Book Bitches

OK…let me be honest for a minute. When I first started reading Not At First I was having a difficult time with it. I had a rough time understanding the story, it was a little choppy for me HOWEVER…as the story continued I was dragged in and I couldn’t get enough! This was definitely a 4 star read for me. And of course I have a major book hangover and Phalla is still writing the follow-up Angel is starting her life over, new city and new school. She is leaving her past behind her but she cannot shake what she has been through.“You will never be happy… You gave up on life… Your family hates you…”This is how she views her life. Upon starting classes she meets Kevin, the apparently bi-polar tough guy who is sweet one minute and a complete ASSHAT the next. Angel seems to be drawn to him but pushes him away at the same time. She also meets Roman, the sweet and sexy business man who spots her while she is waiting for the bus. When Roman and Kevin are around each other Angel can feel the tension between them but doesn’t get it. At dinner with Kevin she orders first and unknowingly orders his “usual” meal. While at Kevin’s house she asks Roman to pick her up and he knows right where it is without even asking…so many coincidences I could not figure out what on Earth was going on.Angel and Roman begin seeing each other and he is sooooo sweet! Roof top dinners, sweet kisses, walking her to the door…meanwhile Kevin is always inadvertently insulting her or getting to comfortable and touchy feely. As the story goes on Roman becomes more and more overprotective and he begins acting like the ASSHAT. He speaks of “punishing” Angel for her actions.“He’s not gentle and this is not making love. He’s fucking me. I take what he’s giving me and whimper out my orgasm.”I started liking Kevin more and more. There was something about him that had me curious. I didn’t like that he was secretive and acted like a jerk and yet I was still rooting for Angel to leave Roman and go to Kevin. Angel is torn between the two men.“I have fallen in love with two men. There’s going to come a time where I will hurt one deeply, but for right now, I’m just going to enjoy them both. I will face the consequences when the time comes.”We start to learn bits and pieces of Angel’s past and how Kevin apparently had a part of it. It is not 100% clear to me where this story is going butneedless to say I am anxiously waiting!! I need to know if Angel is going to be OK and be able to live a life that she deserves. Please don’t keep me waiting too long Phalla

*3.5 Stars*Angel Mabbott is a broken soul who finds herself moving to Minneapolis to start a new life. Her plan is to lie to everyone about her past and start completely over, which proves to be easier said than done, especially when she meets not one, but two guys, who are interested in her. She is reminded daily of her past, how long can she hide it from them? She also knows she can’t keep both of the guys, but she doesn’t want to hurt either one. Which will she choose?Option number 1 – Kevin Hawken. On the outside he’s the typical bad boy – hot, muscles, tattoos, dark and dangerous. The downside is he’s extremely cocky, not to mention temperamental and moody. But he genuinely cares for Angel and wants to take care of her, if only he could get her away from that other guy that Kevin just doesn’t trust at allWhich brings us to option number 2 – Roman Conti. At first glance, he’s this extremely romantic, shy, generously wealthy CEO, and his smile makes Angel want to do anything he asks. It doesn’t take long to learn that shy, sweet Roman is actually a very strict, controlling, dominating, demanding man who expects Angel to do exactly as he says or be punished. We can see that, but for some reason Angel doesn’t see him that way.Angel thinks she wants Roman, that he is better for her because he is sweet and caring, but she is quickly developing feelings for Kevin and can’t deny her attraction to him. She also knows Kevin has secrets that he is hiding, and she wants him to open up to her, without her having to open up herself. Both guys want her, neither will share – who will she choose? Will she make the right choice, or will her decision cost her more than her heart? This story definitely kept my attention and I did enjoy it, but the characters just seemed to move ridiculously fast, and Angel is the most confusing person I’ve ever met. One minute she’s being loyal and can’t do anything wrong, the next minute she’s begging for it. Not to mention she is not the smartest girl when it comes to her decisions, I wanted to knock some sense into her myself. Overall, it was pretty good, and the ending did leave me wanting to know what happens next, so I will be looking forward to the release of Always at First. Hopefully some of the questions I still have from this one will be answered.

I was given this book for an honest review. When the book opens up, Angel is in the hospital after trying to commit suicide. A young man enters the hospital and speaks with her Uncle about what has happened. You don't know who this man is, but you get the sense that he is in love with her. In the first chapter, Angel is in college. (I was very confused as to the span of time that had happened between the prologue and the first chapter.) Angel arrives at her new apartment and meet her new roommate Lola. Her room is trashed and they head to a hardware store to get supplies to paint the room. She enters the hardware store and is immediately drawn to the young man that is working there. Cut to her first day of class, and she enters her classroom to very good looking young man, but she doesn't seem to realize at first that he is the same guy from the hardware store. They become lab partners after he convinces her that she won't pass the class without him. When classes are over for the day, she heads to the bus stop and catches the eye of a man that she believes is a bum. She watches the exchange that he has with two men in suits, and then gets on the bus to go home. The next day, she sees him again at the bus stop, but he has cleaned up. She has a conversation with him and he gives her his business card to let her know who he is. The story goes back and forth with her and the sparks that she has with both men. She is attracted to both of them. Kevin is the sweet man, while Roman is a domineering man who wants to claim her for himself. The story line was good, but I was very confused through most of it. It does have some hot sex scenes that hook you in. I did have to keep reading so that I would know what happened. The end of the story has a cliffhanger, so I am led to believe that there will be more to give you a conclusion on what will happen between Angel, Roman and Kevin.

When I read the prologue I was instantly captivated. Here is a girl who has had something major happen to her and she handled it the wrong way. The prologue is told by an unknown male. He sits by her side while she's in a coma, he loves her. Who is he you ask? Well we'll get to that part, or I should say if you read the book, you'll get to that part. I will not let that secret out of the bag.Angel is off to start her life in another city, she is starting over and trying to move on from her past. I love how this love triangle is written. First she meets Kevin, who by the way I instantly like. Hazel eyes, tattoos that poke out of his shirt sleeves, I'm a sucker for tattoos. She meets Kevin first at the hardware store, then on her first day of college. He becomes her lab partner and this is where the banter begins and the sexual tension grows. I loved Kevin, then I hated Kevin. He is very alpha when it comes to Angel but she is holding back from him. Enter Roman, CEO of a major company. GQ, lived in Italy. This is where I begin to hate Kevin and swoon over Roman. He is a gentleman, hearts and flowers guy. The way this author writes the story you experience the tension between Kevin and Angel. I found myself cheering on Roman, hoping that she makes the right decision and picks the good guy.A third of the way into the book is where I began to really put the pieces of the puzzle together. Mystery man from the prologue is introduced and Holy Hell, I wasn't expecting that. Things start to unravel in the plot and I began clenching my Kindle. I was holding my breathe through the last few chapters, and thinking to myself "What the hell? This can't be happening?" If you like a book with a plot twist then you will love this one. I really liked the concept of this book. I can't wait to see where the second book takes Angel, Kevin and Roman. I'm giving this book 3 1/2 Stars!~Jen

4.5 starsThis book had me hooked from the prologue. I honestly couldn’t put it down and had I not actually had to go to work I would’ve probably finished it in one sitting. This story had great characters that had me either laughing, swooning or wanting to throw my Kindle at the wall. Yep this book put me through the ringer, but it was sooooo worth it.So let’s start with Angel. Angel oh Angel at times I wanted to shake her and tell her WTF!! I could understand her conflicted feelings between Kevin and Roman in the beginning, but by 60% it was very clear to me the way things should be going but then they don’t. She was all over the place with her thoughts at times and after the prologue I was waiting for a little more insight into all of that, but never got it. So I’m hoping book two will go into a lot of my unanswered questions.Kevin, oh Kevin. He was actually my favorite character even though he keeps secrets and does things that again make me want to shake him and maybe even slap him upside his head and yell, “WAKE UP!” I can’t wait to learn more about him, and I hope he gets his @#%& together. Now Roman, without giving too much away let’s just say I was a little shocked and even more curious about him even though after slapping Kevin upside the head, I’d like to kick him right where it counts. :)They were great secondary characters, some I loved like, Lola, but some I hated…Aubrey. My only teeny tiny complaint besides needing book two NOW and the end felt a little too rushed for me, but not enough to make me not love the story.**ARC provided for honest review**for more reviews visit welovekink (dot) com

I have to be honest, I wasn't quite sure about this one.....of course I love a good triangle but it just didn't grab me at first and I had a hard time connecting but around 30 % the hooks were sunk in and I was hooked! I couldn't wait to see what happened in the story and it had a great plot twist that I didn't see coming. 3.5 stars.Angel has not had the easiest life and after losing her father, she feels even more lost. Feeling hopeless, she makes the decision to try and end her own life. After her recovery, she is sent to Minneapolis by her uncle to try and start over, begin college, and start fresh and move on with her life. Unknown to her, she has a mystery man that is in love with her. Her mystery man follows her to the new town to watch over her and keep her from getting hurt and hopefully steal her heart. Not long after moving, Angel finds herself involved with two men. There's Kevin.....the hot, tattooed college student who makes sure she is safe, comfortable, and seems to genuinely care about her, who is getting to her heart. Then there's Roman......the sexy, alpha, business man, who will stop at nothing to have her, and who owns her body. Both of these men are keeping secrets, some more deceitful than others, when the truth comes out who will win Angel's heart?I enjoyed this story and will definitely be reading book 2. This is a good debut novel, with a little more character development and descriptive writing Phalla will continue to grow as an author and I can't wait to read more from her.

I have been waiting to read this for a few months now. I helped Phalla with her cover reveal for this book back in August and have been patiently awaiting it's release. And boy was it ever a great book! For her first time out, Phella did a wonderful job of keeping my attention and hooking me into this emotionally charged story. Like an new author, there are things that could be improved upon. I would have like to have seen a little more character development with most of the main players. But there was still enough to keep me hooked and boy was I hooked by Kevin! <3Angel is running away from a past that she is determine to overcome. The prologue starts us off with a little of her background and a mystery man who would do anything for her. As Angel starts her new life in Minnesota, where her deceased father has once had a life, enrolling at the University of Minnesota, she meets an emotionally charged Kevin who has this instant connection with Angel. As Angel is trying to figure out what exactly is happening between Kevin and herself, she finds herself at the bus stop being pulled in by a man staring at her. Roman Conti is instantaneously drawn to Angel and makes his move to make her his.As her relationship with Roman starts to become serious, her relationship with Kevin starts to evolve in its own way. Angel is left confused not really knowing which way to turn. Now there is a cliff hanger in this one, but you are left with a little bit of a glimpse into book 2. I give this a solid 4 stars and can't wait to see more from Phalla and book 2!

***ARC Provided by Author for Honest Review*****POSSIBLE SPOILERS**Not At First drawled me in right away!! I am a sucker for love triangles. This book had all the angst, mystery, steaminess, and love I look for in a book. Angel is starting college and has a mysterious past. She meets Kevin right away. He hes a hunky tattoo man. (Who can resist those types ;))"You're way too bitchy to be an Angel"He also has some mystery to him.I was so lost in this story i COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. (neglected major house duties btw lol)This author knew how to draw me in with questions. I had so many questions i wanted answered i knew i had to just keep on reading. Although not all were answered it was still fun to figure out the story and kept me on the edge of my seat (THERE WILL BE A BOOK 2).Now when i met Roman i thought.... *SWOON*. All of there moments together were amazing.... until .... THE CONTROLLING ROMAN. Ugh! he started seeming abusive after a while. Not sure if that's what the author was going for but.... i ended up hating Roman. Which sucks cause i really wanted to like him.So through all of these guys and steamy scenes little things here and there are having you question EVERYTHING!From time to time i wanted to THROAT PUNCH Angle... lol but then again i understood why she did the things she did.all in all 5 STARS!!When a book can hold my attention like this one... That is always a great thing.I CANT WAIT FOR BOOK 2!!!Great Job Phalla!! :)

3.5 Stars from me!There have been few books that I have read that have left me completely confused after reading the story. I am unsure if that is a good thing, or a bad thing, but in the case of this book, it was a bad thing. While I did enjoy the plot line itself, there were some parts of it where I was left scratching my head trying to figure out what had happened.Angel’s character I have mixed emotions about because she is your typical weak woman. I feel sorry saying that, but that’s my opinion of her. She doesn’t seem to understand that just because bad things happen to her that means she gives up completely. Even more with that, she seems to be playing both men against themselves. You have Kevin who seems like he has his life on track, and seems to genuinely care about what happens to Angel. Yet she gets mad at him because he shows that he cares. Roman doesn’t seem to want anything but to control Angel, and even when she sees the horrible side of Roman, she stays with him instead of doing what she believes is right.I am conflicted about if I would read the next book in the series because part of me wants to find out what happens next, but the other part of me is unsure if I would enjoy reading the story. I suppose it will depend on what others say about the next book. Review provided by Crystal's Many Reviews

******* ARC received in exchange for HONEST review *******Overall i enjoyed this book. What i love are the men... WOW HOT! Ok, well i love the men up until the end anyways. Angel our main character has issues with the passing of her father and places blame on herself for his death. After moving states she ends up in college and meets not one but two hotties! I think i need to go to her school :). What frustrated me was how they talked to her. I was like 'oh hell no' a lot. Maybe she thought she deserved it i don't know but wow. I got frustrated so many times with this. I swear most of these characters have personality disorders but even with their issues i still found a way to be pulled into this story. Kevin struggles with his own issues which we find out at the end of the book and Roman is a mystery as well. I had NO clue or even guessed what would happen with him. I hope the next book goes into more about Roman and answers my questions!I would recommend this book for sure. It isn't until the end that things start to fall in place and then the book is over so you'll get a little frustrated because nobody likes to be left wondering but hey she has to keep our attention right? Overall great book, can't wait for the next. When is the release date?!?!?!?!?!Happy Reading :)

I'm not entirely sure what to say about this book. Its a love triangle between Angel Mabbott, Roman Conti, and Kevin Hawken which is based in Minneapolis. Though this book caught my eye and I couldn't put it down because I couldn't wait to see what happens next, I was totally confused after reading the Epilogue and the Prologue. Angel is tormented by the death of her father and when she moves to attend college she finds herself being lab partners with Kevin who seems to be utterly smitten with her. But then she meets Roman who is georgous and mysterious and she feels an instant pull to him immediately Both men want Angel for themselves and will try their hardest to get her. However secrets start to unfold and Angel finds her heart torn between the two men and not sure how to handle it or what to do. Neither men are what they seem or who they say they are and she is fighting to gain control of her life and her love life. Now to the confusing part I had no clue what each men did and there was really no explanation at the end of this book. Though I liked and would recommend it I just felt that it could of been more detailed so you aren't feeling the WTF factor when you are done reading it. I hope that she writes a second book to this to answer all the questions. All and All a good read.

Received an ARC from author for an honest review. I felt this could have been a tremendous book, but I admit there were times I was confused. Read this twice and found I had more questions than answers. The lead female...Angel seems very immature and naive. She has a tragic backstory but we never find out what this is. She is hated by most of her family..why?Kevin..really like Kevin...but what is his age. Is he a stalker. How is he in all her classes? How is he connected to Roman? Is he a part of her past? How does he know her from before?Roman... First and hide. He is just creepy. I think my main problem with Angel is how could she be so stupid to get involved with someone like him. How old is he? What is his real business? How does he know Kevin? Why is he stalking Angel? Does he know her from the past? This is where my problem lies. I'm all for making someone read the next book, but I am afraid she will turn people off because she did not really develop any of the characters. We have to know someone to care about what happens to them. By the end I felt like just kidnap Angel, let her with Roman and give Kevin to someone who deserves him. With all that being said I will read the next book, just because this one left me with no answers

I was very intrigued by the blurb for this book and was excited to read it. I love reading new authors and watching them grow as authors. Not at First is the first book I have read by Rios. The book is centered around Angel and how she is basically in love with two men: Roman and Kevin. I really loved Kevin. He was kind and very mysterious which made me like him even more. I was never sure what he would do next and he seemed to really genuinely care about Angel. I like male characters that are sure of themselves but not cocky. Roman on the other hand is everything in a male character that I hate. If one of my friends was dating a guy like him I would tell her to run fast and far. Angel really bugged me as a female character. I really did not see what she saw in Roman after she got to know him better. He was a class A jerk and seemed to be more in love with controlling Angel instead of loving her. Kevin clearly loved her but she seemed to not know what to do about it.Rios does a really good job at keeping us guessing and wanting to read on to find out the answers to all the questions I had while reading. I had so many questions that I wanted clarification about certain plot points. Most of my questions were answered and now I'm anxious to find out what happens to Angel. Does she pick the man that is save? or the man that scares her?Reviewed by Aubrey

A very impressive debut novel for Phalla Rios!!! Once again, I went into this book without reading the synopsis and loved every bit of this book.“Nothing ever comes easy loving Angel.”Angel moves to Minneapolis after some a rough patch in her life. While she is there, she finds herself falling in love with two men. She loves both men and each one affects her differently. Kevin is her college lab partner always helping her study and trying to make sure that doesn’t miss out on the college life. Roman is the sharp, dressed businessman that just lifts her off her feet and just melts her panties. Both men refuse to share Angel but neither will back down. Which one will Angel choose?? And is it the right choice??“His kiss is sensual and demanding. His tongue slips in and toys around in my mouth, wakening the sexual need that I have suppressed for so long. I fall into his kiss and moan into his mouth.”The story has an amazing plot and one of these men is a mystery man from her past but she has no clue which one. And both men seem to have secrets that they are not willing to share with Angel. Not only is the plot hot, but the story will keep you at the edge of your seat and guessing the whole time. The next book can’t come soon enough!!This is a definite must read!!!!***VISIT WWW.LOVENBOOKS.COM FOR MORE REVIEWS***

I must admit, I got sucked into this story right away, so I was excited! Although I liked Angel's character, I found her a bit confusing as to how she could reflect on most of her past but yet other important things she didn't remember, and why? I wish we would have delved a little more into her past, her family, etc. It was almost like she had two personalities…soft spoken and scared to bitchy and confident. I kind of liked the love triangle that she had going. Of course, I am all about team Kevin, but I liked Roman's dark side. What can I say? I do tend to lean toward darker reads ;) Overall, this story captured my attention right away, and kept me interested throughout. It needs a little bit more editing (which the author already informed me), but that didn't take away my enjoyment of reading the book. There were some unexpected moments and the ending threw me a little, but yet I'm really looking forward to the next book. There is so much we still don't know! I wonder when that will be….soon, I hope??I would recommend this to anyone who likes a quick, easy read, focusing on a love triangle including a bit of mystery and sex. Thanks for allowing me to read and review your debut book! It was good!

Angel is trying a fresh start. Her family hates her and blames her for her father's death. She wants to go where no one will know her. No one will hate her. She'll start out going to college and end up where? She meets Kevin on her first day of class. He's gorgeous, cocky, and a puzzle to be figured out. He's also becoming one of her best friends. He wants more, but can she give it to him? While at the bus stop she sees Roman Conti. First she mistakes him for a homeless man with the looks of a God. She'll find out he's wealthy, connected, and wants to possess her. She can't help but fall for his romantic displays and his take charge appeal. As the two men make their way into Angel's heart she'll have to choose between the man she knows and the one that still is a mystery. She may not know as much as she thinks she does though and when she finds out it could be too late. This book is full steam ahead. At times I felt like it was rushed. The connections are made so quick that you wonder what type of girl she really is. While that being said when it comes to emotions, it's full on. I loved the premise of the story and think it's a great read.I received a copy of this book for my honest review.

I had a difficult time rating this book, but in the end I went with a three because although I liked it a lot, I had some issues with it. What I liked: I liked the basic story line and thought the author took the story line to several good places and kept the reader intrigued. I loved Kevin's character and what you found out about his youth. This was a debut novel and the author was able to weave an intense story with lots of secrets and rollercoaster emotions. What bothered me: The ending wasn't really an left the reader hanging and it left Angel in a bad place. I disliked Roman from the first moment-something never connected with him for me. I didn't get a great connection with Angel either because we never really heard the story of her past from her. We got a couple of scenes, but we never really got that true understanding of why she was now the way she was. Overall, I want to see the next book because I need to see what happens to Keven more than anything else. I really hope we get a better feel for Angel in that book so that we can better understand her emotional state as well.*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Hmmmm where to begin. When I finally was able get focused on this book it really pulled me in. The hurt and turmoil that Angel goes through is heart breaking. She finds herself in love with two completely different men who are so much alike yet totally different in so many ways. The hardest thing is for Angel to learn to love herself before she can completely love someone else. As her relationship with Roman progresses she finds out things that leave her questioning being with him, but can she turn away. And then there is Kevin who wants her but cant have her in the way he wants. Can he show her what they can or could be? Will Angel continue to fall for Kevin and give him the one piece of herself that seems to be forever lost? I enjoyed this book and can say that I can not wait to read the next one. I cant wait to see what happens to Angel and how she will overcome being torn between her feelings for two men. Can her weak self resolve get her through this, or willl she cave? I love the story for the push and pull that Phalla gives us. She leaves us yearning for more. Definitely a must read in my book.

Sounds steamy ; )Falling for two men at the same time was something Angel Mabbott never expected to happen.Leaving a past full of pain and loss in California, Angel is determined to make something of her life when she starts college in Minneapolis. But life takes a turn when she finds herself torn between Kevin and Roman.Kevin Hawken is a domineering man who forces himself into Angel's life and changes everything she thought she knew. But how much can he be trusted when he is so secretive about himself?Angel was instantly intrigued when she first laid eyes on Roman Conti, an Investment firm owner. *ARC copy provided by the author for an honest review*This story is about a girl named Angel. Due to the loss of a family member she is left with no family. She decides one faithful day that life is no longer worth living. This sends her with no place to live and no family to be there for her. She meets two guys who are head over heels for her. As this story unwinds it shows a darker history of the two guys who are a part of her new life. This is a sad story that will keep you hooked into the story from beginning to end.Do not expect a story with a strong female lead because this book would seriously disappoint you. She is broken and it keeps you asking why she makes the choices she makes. It is powerful and emotional.
