I was completely blown away by Always At First (Not At First #2) by Phalla S Rios. It is a follow on novel from Not At First. It continues the love triangle which is Roman, Kevin and Angel. In this second novel we get to hear from Kevin and Angels POV as we learn about there past that creates there present. Kevin has always loved Angel although mostly from afar. Angel is in love with Kevin but is trapped by the ever demanding dominant Roman (who she also loves) The events run at a steady pace throughout the book and WOWZA there are some amazing events, shocks, twists secrets to keep you hooked and on the edge of your seat.I loved all the characters, Kevin was a sexy hot tattooed play boy who deeply cared for Angel and tried to protect her. He had harbored so much love for her over the years.--Let the fear you have be what you need to fight harder for what you want !Roman scared the s**t out of me. Don't get me wrong, he was beyond hot but he was Dark, Dangerous, Controlling and Demanding. He controlled Angel in every way possible and if she didn't comply he punished her.--That is nothing compared to what I can do.....what I will do if you try to leave me again !Angel was insufferable, she drove me insane. I wanted to give her a good wake up call. She was a selfish girl and took complete advantage of the people who cared and loved her most. She tried to protect Kevin's life by staying with Roman.--I just signed my soul to the devil to protect Kevin !I loved the way Phalla got you hooked from page 1. The connection with the characters just sucked you right in till the very end. Fantastic writing that had me heart wrenched and feeling so many different emotions, even sad tears flowed. This book is one of those reads that will be etched into your mind fora very long time.

Book Worms Reviewer Kimberley left this Book WOrms Review, thank you Kimberley. We gave this book 4 stars. This is book to in the Not at First SeriesBook - Always At First.4 stars. This book is set in the past and present tense and it revolves around three characters, it's a follow on from a previous series. The story focuses on Angel and she seems to be in trouble, caught between two guys, one she's deeply in love with the other who she ran from but still seems to be attracted to him, no matter what he seems to do.But it seems all is not lost as Kevin (Angels Boyfriend?) comes to get her but he doesn't seem to be impressed "I let her leave with him. I walked away again. There's no excuse for this. I'm fully letting her slip away from me and I'm not doing a damn thing about it. And here I am, on a f**king plane full of that c*ck sucker's people, sitting across from the dirty looking guard that held a gun to my head, before shoving me into this very plane we are both on". It seems to be a case of all as not as it seems, does he want to be on that plane? Why was he kidnapped? And more importantly, does Angel know?Yet Kevin says some very wise words "You can't chose who you love, the heart wants what the heart wants"Could this be a sign? That he does still want Angel? Despite them being related?Angel seems to be falling deeper and deeper into her situation, yet she can't seem to help herself. "I just signed my soul to the devil, to protect Kevin. I just hope he will forgive me for doing so."For some reason you just want to shout at her at times and then the next you just wanna tell her it will all be ok and not to worry. She draws you with her vulnerability and her steadfast stubbornness. She refuses to give up and give in but she is steadily being worn down, will she manage to escape? But I think the bigger question is, does she want to escape her captor after all this?Even though she is confused she is still torn, "The sea of confusing emotions is unbearable and all I can do is be strong enough to survive the waves of constant longing for a man I desperately need to let go".But can she?"Can I forget Kevin, who holds my heart prisoner and marry a man that will never have my heart? Yes, I would. My child will have both parents. I have seen what a broken home can do to a child".I don't think she can forget him, I think she is desperate to but her heart can't stop loving him. Kevin feels a strong sense of guilt towards Angel in his past, he can't place his feelings for her, are they right or they wrong? All he feels is a deep regret for having left her for so long. "Her eyes are lost of the sparkling brightness I'd fell in love with".This is a perfect way to remember her but doesn't stop the guilt he feels.Angel is deeply troubled "If you live my life. you'll understand. But you don't, so you can't stand here judging me!"Clearly Kevin wants to help but is at loss as to how, you feel for both of these character right here, you wish you could just tell them what is going on, to help them see past all the barriers.Kevin waited for years to have his opportunity, now there is no going back, "I waited four long years to hold her again, just like this and after tonight I don;t think I can ever stop. This just goes to show how deeply he feels for her, even after all those years that have passed between them. "We're here now, forget about the past"But can they? These two people will have you turning pages well into the early hours! A series not to be missed!

4 STAR THOUGHTSIf you have read Not at First (if you haven't stop reading this and go read it NOW), then you have been dying to get your hands on this book! We were left with so many questions at the end of book 1, and finally we get to know more about Angel, Kevin & Roman! Once again we are left guessing, wondering, and hoping until the very end! We get to learn more about Kevin and Angel pasts, while also learning more about her and Roman's intense relationship. Phalla S. Rios once again had me a nervous wreck trying to figure out where the story was taking me. "My world will forever be changed by the hurricane force that is Roman." ~AngelAngel has been whisked away to Italy with Roman. He is determined to make her his forever. But no matter how intense of a connection Angel feels with Roman, she knows her heart belongs to Kevin. Sometimes though life doesn't go your way and you are forced to make decisions and live with the consequences. And Angel will do whatever she has to, as long as Kevin is safe. “Your body belongs to me, every part of you is mine.” ~RomanAs they return to the states for Angel to continue school, Roman makes it clear she is to stay away from Kevin. No more mistakes. But it is hard to stay away from the him. But being near him again ends bad, leaving Angel lost."…that woman stole my soul and I need her to live, to breath, to fucking finally love my life.” ~KevinWhen a tragedy occurs, Angel is broken. Will Roman every let her go? Can Kevin ever forgive her? Who is her forever? There are no words… I was lost and broken so many times. As the story unfolds from both Kevin and Angel's POV (and a small bit of Roman) we get to learn about the past and the present. How did they get to this point? Who neglected Angel to leave her so insecure? My emotions were all over the place. I was happy and in love, broken and sad, and just a nervous wreck! Dare I also say that I love to hate Roman… and that I want more of him! I know, I know he is awful. Don't get me wrong I love Kevin & Angel, and Kevin's alpha side is HOT. Go check out this series today! You will be on the edge of your seat trying to figure out where Ms. Rios is taking you next!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.I started reading this book as soon as I finished reading Not At First. I had to know what was gonna happen next. What I found was a book full of suspense, romance, pain, and enlightenment. Angel is in love with Kevin but to keep him safe she needs to stay with Roman. A man she once loved but has now come to fear but still excites her sexually. She will do anything to keep Kevin safe but can't help the draw she feels towards him. The connection she felt towards Kevin that confused her once now makes perfect sense to her.We get a more in depth look in this book into Kevin's feelings for Angel. Through some really great flashback scenes we get glimpses into his initial encounters with Angel and see how his love has grown through the years. Kevin truly loves Angel and wants nothing more than to take her away and protect her from Roman. A man he knows is dangerous.Roman is a dangerous man and he hates not being obeyed. The way he treats Angel makes me sick. I know in his own he does love her but his need to be in total control of everything has doomed him.I was on the edge of my seat reading this book. My heart broke for Kevin at times during this book. I was scared of Roman would do to Kevin and her friends. I wasn't worried about him physically hurting Angel because of the fact that she's pregnant but that didn't mean that I wasn't scared that he might do some emotional damage to her. I began disliking Roman even more while reading this book. I even found myself crying at times for Angel and what she's experiencing. A wonderful read that I know I will be reading again.

***WARNING*** This is NOT a standalone novel, in order to fully understand this story you will need to read Not At First prior to reading Always At FirstAlways At First picks up where Not At First left off. Angel is now under the watchful eye of Roman. Roman will do anything to keep his woman, even if that means eliminating the competition Kevin. Kevin will do anything for Angel, he's loved her for a long time. He's loved her from afar and just when he has her in his arms, everything goes to hell and back and she ends up in the clutches of the enemy.Roman is a domineering man who wants everything done his way and he'll do anything to get it. Make matters worse, Angel finds out she's pregnant with Roman's baby. Now Angel knows she must give up her love for Kevin in order for him to remain safe. Issue is, no matter how much she tries, she cannot let Kevin go, she loves him too much. She knows she should give him up and let him go, but the heart wants what the heart wants, and her heart wants Kevin. It was easier for a while being out of the country, but the second they return, Angel is right back in the path of Kevin and he will do anything to get her back and keep her safe even if it puts himself in harms way. Told in dual points of view and the reader given a view into the past, this story is heartfelt and will pull at the strings of your heart and will make you fall even more in love with these characters than before.I was always a fan of Kevin and Angel's love story. Phalla gives us a whole new view into the characters that we have grown to love and adore and even gives a better understanding into Roman. Roman is a man that confuses me he spent so much of this book going hot and cold and then back and forth over and over again bringing me to the verge of a headache. I didn't expect to end up with the story that I read, but it made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me fall in love with Angel and Kevin all over again.I highly recommend this book of anyone that fell in love with Not At First. If you haven't read it, what are you waiting for??? Pick it up and read this book. I give it 5 amazing stars and cannot wait to see if there will be more of Angel and Kevin in the future.***Complimentary copy give by author in exchange for a honest review***

"Let the fear you have be the push you need to fight harder for what you want."When I finished Not at First a few months back, I was left with quite a few questions. Thankfully, I got the answers I wanted from Always at First. Throughout the book, we are being taken back and forth through time in both Angel and Kevin’s points of view, and while it could get a little confusing if you aren’t paying attention, it really helps us learn what Kevin and Angel went through growing up and how they got to where they are today. If you haven’t read Not at First, you may want to before picking this one up…The book picks up with Angel under Roman’s control (if you haven’t read my other review, I really don’t care for Roman at all). Angel’s heart belongs to Kevin, but Roman says if she doesn’t forget about him, that could cost Kevin his life. In order to save him, Angel finally decides to give in to Roman and pretend to love him, but it’ll never be true…or will it? Despite how much she hates him, she can’t deny what feelings he evokes from her body. And under all that evil? Somewhere deep down is a loving, sweet, caring, protective side that she brings out of him, and it could make her love him.We finally get in Kevin’s head and learn more about him – where he came from, his life growing up, how he got started working for Angel’s dad, and how long he has actually been in love with her. His sister tried to talk him out of caring for Angel, Angel’s dad forbid him to even look at her, but he learns that you can’t help who you love. He had several “run-ins” with Angel over the course of several years, each time breaking his heart, but he still couldn’t let her go. Now he’s determined to get her back, but will it cost him his life? Does she even want him?Angel’s moods give me whiplash. One minute, she hates Roman, the next she cares for him and he turns her on. I was really upset with how she broke Kevin’s heart repeatedly over the years, but after learning more about her, I can forgive her of that. I was expecting more of a fight at the end, but overall I am happy with this story and with the way it turned out. Phalla is planning on a couple more books regarding the characters in these stories and I’m looking forward to more, especially Roman. So far, I can’t get my head around him and why he is the way he is…I’m looking for him to be redeemed!

I am so upset after reading this book. It was great that all my doubts about who the guy was in the prologue of Not at First was cleared and we finally find out who is Angel's greatest love but there are so many unresolved issues and disappointing moments.Firstly, I felt that the way Angel miscarried her child was anti-climatical and how Roman just walked away was disappointing. That and how Angel was two-timing Roman and Kevin, Kevin two-timing with Angel and Aubrey, Roman fucking all the other whores out there, plus we find out at the author's post script that (view spoiler)[Roman is probably going to end up with Camillia, the capture girl (hide spoiler)], I'm not even going to list their parent's rubbish of a relationship, it just felt that all the relationships in this story are screwed up.Also, I have a burning question. Why does Angel never seem to remember Kevin?! Granted, she was intoxicated at times or thought he was unreal, but if she had truly felt that much for him, how could she not recognize him every single time?! Unless she has amnesia or something. What happened with Andre and Lola wasn't mentioned at the end too! Thankfully, the author mentioned that there was going to be another book for Kevin and Angel, Marcus and Ellie, and Roman as well. Though I'm still quite upset that after everything Roman did to Angel, he just ups himself and leaves and ends up finding true love with another girl. I'm going to hate him forever, argh! However, I bet the author is going to come up with some badass family history and his sad excuse of a childhood and life being misunderstood and a lifetime of pain and regrets that the readers will have no choice but to sympathise with him. Unfortunately, I don't like reading sequels starring the other parings, so whether or not I'm going to read that book next year is unknown. In a nutshell, I had high hopes for this series in Not at First and a good 3/4 of Always at First, but the way the second book ended was kind of a let down. I find the author's ability to create twists and mind tricks with little bits of information that messes with our minds really good but the way she ends the book just doesn't sit well with me.

Always At First picks up where Not At First ended. Angel is in love with Kevin, but Roman has declared her to be his and went as far as to ensure it with a child. She's been swept away to Italy and everyone is concerned for her as they don't know for sure what is happening. She's torn between the decision of whether to go to the man she loves and endanger them both or to stay with the man she cares for and keep them safe. Can either of them be truly safe though? The pace is spot on during most of the book. There is so much detail and so many events. You'll be shocked by much of it. I truly don't know who I feel sorry for in this story. You have the glutton for punishment, the unreturned love, a mob boss, deeply scarred youths. Basically between the three of them they are a sad lot, but a hot lot. It's a really good read and you truly don't know what is coming until it happens. They were things left out toward the end. I'm wondering if there is a third book. The ending was a bit rushed for me and didn't seem complete, though in my perspective it seems to elude to another book. I truly hope so as I've enjoyed both books and would like to see where the story goes from here. This book has so many different dynamics to it as Angel is trying to not only come to terms with her life changing, but also wanting to make decisions for herself. I will say the one part was heart wrenching and at first I wasn't sure what was going on. It was a scene that could have been even more powerful if we'd have known truly what was happening from that first moment. This book is better than four stars but I can't give it five yet. If I knew there was a third book to fill in the blanks I would give that extra shiny, but alas there's nothing that I could find stating there is one. This is a wonderful read for a lazy day as the length can be enjoyed in an afternoon or evening.Edit: The author contacted me and there is in fact going to be a third book. Bring on that extra star, it's five now and I can't wait for the next book to come out!I received a copy of this book for my honest review.

4.5 Stars...I want more Roman. But I really enjoyed Angel and Kevin's story and their fight to find a way to be together. Always at First is a continuation of Angel, Kevin and Roman's story. Told from both Angel and Kevin's pov, with a small bit of Roman too. The story goes back and forth between their present day lives and their past. Allowing the reader to get a more in depth look at their lives and how it all comes into play. Angel has been taken away to Italy by Roman and he will stop at nothing to make her his. Angel feels a strong connection to him, but deep down her heart will always be with Kevin. When they return to the states so that she can finish school, she makes contact with Kevin and it ends very badly. When Angel suffers a terrible loss, Roman has to decide if he can keep it together and stay with her or if he should finally set her free. This is the first book that I have read by Phalla S. Rios. I was luck enough to be the proofreader for this book. I now need to go back and read book 1. I find her writing style to be refreshing and exciting. The story line was filled with plenty of love, loss, anger, hurt and suspense. But above all it is filled with the devotion of Kevin and Angel's characters to one another. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more of what Phalla comes up with. I would love to see a spin off story about Roman. I love a really good, bad boy alpha!

Always at First is the second novel in the Not at First series. I was really looking forward to this novel after reading the first one. It is a super quick read with some interesting characters. However I felt like I was asking more questions of what I was reading without getting the answers. I would be reading and stop to think about what was going on. I just did not enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the first one. I kept reading hoping my questions would be answered but I ended up having more questions than answers.Angel grew as a character but I wanted her to be stronger. To assert herself more. But I also get that Roman did not allow that. Kevin was by far my favorite character in that he was always a knight in tarnished armor. I hated Roman. I don't find the kind of man that Roman is attractive in the least. Too much control and secrets for my liking. Of the two I would always pick Kevin. The story was strong enough to ignore the lack of editing but at times it was distracting. I hope she writes more in the series because I really want answers for some of the glaring questions. I give this book 3 stars because of some of holes in the plot. Reviewed by Aubrey

If I could give this book more than a 5 star review I definitely would! I read it all in one sitting! It was just that good of a book. Angel is now under Roman's control. After falling pregnant, she feels that she will now be connected to him for life. She tries numerous times to talk to and see the one man she loves, Kevin. After failing several attempts, Roman's mob beats up Kevin sending him to the hospital. During an outing with her roommate, she sneaks off to see Kevin. Angel eventually loses the baby from all the stress and Roman tells her it's over and leaves, without even a goodbye. Angel is free from his control and runs to Kevin's house, where she confesses her love for him. I highly recommend this book along with the other book that goes with this one. They were such awesome reads!Reviewed by: Amber Cromer

Wow, Can I have more please? This story was just amazing. I can't get over how much I really really enjoyed it. This author did an outstanding job with writing this story, how she got the words to get across the pages was wonderful. as with the characters and what each person brings to the table was just as wonderful. I finished this story like it was going out of style it was just too damn good if you ask me; and now that is why i'm left waiting for more, at least I hope their will be more!!! ***I received this story for free in exchange for an honest review, see more of my review @ http://jmhoward2007.blogspot.com on 5-8-14***

Wait...what?This book, this series I guess just isn't for me. I can overlook editing issues, but I never really got a grasp on the story. Some questions were answered, but each and every aspect of the storyline feels incomplete to me. Why did Angel try to kill herself? What is Romans deal? Is he in the mob? What? Kevin is the only one I can get some kind of reading from, but even that is jumbled mess. Angel is probably my least favorite character, so weak, so easily manipulated, so easy. I never knew anybody to cry so much! For me, this book would have been better if it had more clarity, instead I'm left wondering what I just read.

I started this as soon as I finished Not At First as I couldn't wait any longer to see how the story continued. My problem with writing reviews for a second book in a series is I don't want to give any spoilers. What I'm going to say is these are two brilliant books. I went through so many emotions reading this. Wonderful characters with a great storyline I will certainly be recommending this book to my friends.

Great story line, just like the first book it was a little rushed. I wanted more, more detail, more of Angel and what was going on with her, more of Roman and whatever his business and all that running off was, and Kevin. How could she forget and not recognize Kevin all those times? Just needed a little more so,I wasn't shaking my head and doubting the plot.
