Anyone who has had cancer will be able to tell you that you are willing to fight to get back out there healthy, but the thought of it returning is always there. Will you make it through the second time? Will you ever have the guarantee that everything will work out?The answer is of course, no one knows for sure. Because life does not come with guarantees. All you can do is hope and fight back as hard as you can.In this read the author explores this side of life as she takes us on the very difficult journey with heroine Claire and how meeting the man of her dreams, Travis, shows her the way to a happy life. But the road to their happiness is filled with many twists and turns, cancer being only one of the turns. Whist Claire has her own demons to fight Travis has his. Together they can both help heal each other, however fear is a strong motivator for holding back on your dreams.I found this read to be very touching and also very humorous. Yes, I said humorous, not the word you would associate with something so serious as cancer, yet I understand exactly what the author was trying to show.Cancer is not a death sentence, it's a time to sit up and realize that these could be your last days. Laugh and be as happy as you can, because tomorrow you might not be around to laugh. The book also made me cry over and over at the extreme sadness the illness can cause in the lives of so many. But the author's most powerful message was one of love can get us through anything, and trying to step away from love when we need it the most will gain us nothing but sorrow.I recommend this read for readers that don't mind pulling out the tissues and looking like a fool when crying over a book and if you don't mind laughing out load in the middle of nowhere whilst reading. An emotional, heartwarming look at living with cancer and uncertainly."Taking each day one step at a time"

Travis is still left wondering why Claire ran off during their date. He felt there could be something and Claire panicked. Not they try to avoid each other in the small town of Sweetwater Springs. That will be impossible when Travis starts renovations on the salon Claire works at. She will be forced to face her attraction to Travis. This is a romantic and sweet story of how two people come together and learn that they can lean on each other. Claire is trying to keep her cancer secret and Travis unexpectedly finds out he is a father. Two secrets that bring together love. The storyline was fun, romantic, sweet and emotional. The characters were great. It was like you were living in Sweetwater Springs and gossiping along side all the women in the salon. This storyline proves that you can overcome obstacles in your life and that everyone deserves someone to love. I was given a gift copy in exchange for an honest review.

Her Unexpected Family was a tender, heartwarming story of love, need and commitment. Travis and Claire had one date in the past, and the feelings that surfaced scared each of them to the point they did not date again. Travis had a reputation, Claire not knowing that it was mostly false. Claire fought her feelings for Travis, anyone she had loved in the past ended up leaving her and she always found herself alone.Claire has a serious secret she is hiding from most of her friends and she is afraid when Travis finds out, he will also leave.Travis also had a past, and his past in the form of a 3 yr old named Cody, crashes into his life and Claire finds herself drawn into the family unit. Claire playing an integral role as a caregiver/mom. I don't want to say any more other than this book made me cry several times for the characters and the pain they suffered in the past and again during the story. Travis describes Claire as a ..."strong woman and feisty too", and Claire described the man she dated.."He was kind and caring and respectful. We had a great time, and when he took me home he kissed me. Oh, how he kissed me" She ran a finger across his bottom lip. "Such soul-stealing kisses, like I'd never experienced." The love making was tender and the author described as "Pleasurable combustion".Excellent and original storyline, this author does a superb job at colouring the readers imagination through her words and descriptions. This story has touched my heart and I will not soon forget it. Thank you Carol. This book was gifted by the author for an honest review here on Goodreads.

This was a beautiful story that deals with the raw emotions linked to trials and tragedy that happens in real life. The tissues were ever present for me. I was on an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. This series does not avoid tough topics and situations that most people experience and does so in a way where you feel like your own heart is being wrenched out of you!Travis and Claire are perfect for each other and embrace their new relationship with a push pull. He wants to push her and she wants to pull away to protect him. They deal with their new bumps as a team that is cohesive but believable. Travis has matured from his player ways while Claire learns to let people in to the real her. They help each other become better versions of themselves.

I was given a free copy of Her Unexpected Family for honest reviews on Goodreads and any other site I wanted to post the review on. Without knowing anything about this story my answer was an immediate "Yes". No questions asked just a big yes! I absolutely loved how Carol wrote on pages before the story itself about the characters, Yes this is a part of a series but you do not have to read the first book to understand anything about Claire, the author had that all figured out. I am writing this review before I have even read the book but I can already tell you it will tear your heart open and whether it is sewn back together again or not is how you take to the story the author has laid out in front of you to see and read.

In this book, I paired Claire (Rosie's best friend from A Suitable Wife) with Travis Baxter, a hard-working construction company owner. She has no family to speak of and has never known what it's like to belong to a big, loving bunch like the Baxters. Travis has never known anything else, and his empty house mocks him. At first glance, these two don't seem like they'd be a good fit, but they surprised me during the creation of this book. Yes, I'm the author and yes, I'm rating my own book. I believe in it and the story as it unfolded.

Again we visit the quaint small town of Sweetwater Springs with all of its intriguing, interesting inhabitants. Claire and Travis have flirted, trying to get to know each other, until one ill fated date sent them in opposite directions. Now they avoid each other, but circumstances are about to change.Funny, sexy and gorgeous Claire has a philosophy to live by: keep her cancer a secret, live each day to the fullest and allow no attachments, casual or otherwise. Disappointed that Travis no longer wants a casual affair, Claire retreats until a renovation, a darling three year old boy and her help-out-her-fellow-man personality clash. Thrown into close contact with Travis at work and eventually his home, smoldering embers of attraction flare to life. Sparks fly, but can she keep it casual until her five year cancer free period is over? Then there are the main fears. What if it comes back? Will she be able to survive the heartbreak of losing Travis and his son? Handsome, former “bad boy” Travis has been known for his “love 'em and leave 'em” attitude, but the interactions with Claire makes him want to spend forever with her. Making his wishes known during their one ill fated date scared her off, but extenuating circumstances gave him a second chance to show her he was willing to take the time to tear down all her walls, just to be with her. But with the renovation, sudden fatherhood and the scare of her cancer returning would he ever get the chance? Would he and his son have to survive another loss or would the fates smile kindly on him just this one time? This was a wonderful, sweet romance showing how with perseverance and love just about any obstacle can be faced and overcome. I laughed at the humor, cried with the heartbreaking parts and sympathized with their plight as they tried to find their lasting love. Well written characters meshed with a well developed plot for true reading pleasure. Real page turner. I look forward happily to the next book in the series.I would recommend to all romance readers.5/5 stars Would they be brave enough to take a chance?

*I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review*Thirty-two-year-old Travis Baxter works for a construction company in Sweetwater. He is scheduled to fix up a hair salon where a woman he went on a date, and had a steamy kiss with works. But she had unexpectedly stopped communicating with him. Travis is determined to get Claire to go out with him again. When they're getting close to figuring things out, Travis finds himself with his three-year-old son he didn't know he had. Claire opens up about her past as well as her struggles and comes clean on why she's so determined to keep Travis at arms length. Can Travis get his happy family? Or will Claire manage to keep her heart safe by staying away from Travis and his loveable son? This book was very unique! I loved the plot, ideas, detail and setting! I thought Travis was a great male character and I loved him. Claire was a sweetheart and I had a soft spot for her. Phoenix was loyal to the bone and I hope I get a dog like her some day. I loved how close Travis was to his family. And Claire's troubled past made the book that much more emotional. Mel was a very deep and realistic character. I wish we would have seen more of Travis's family and also more of the town setting. Sara was a bit of a mystery, as we didn't know much about her. I thought Cody's character made a nice contribution to the story. Even though we heard about how Claire and Rosie were best friends, I would have liked to see more of them together. This book was still a great read and even though it dealt with the crushing disease of cancer, it was told in a happy way. Very good.

A heartfelt story about a subject that seems to touch most everyone's lives these days...cancer. I didn't think this book was as good as the first one in this series, but it was still good. I can't wait to read the next book and find out more about the Baxter family.**Copy received from author in exchange for an honest review**

This book fell a little flat for me. I couldn't feel the connection between Claire and Travis. They were likeable characters, but I wasn't invested in their story. Regardless of this, I still enjoyed it, I just didn't love it.
