The Realist is a collection of semi autobiographical comics. I hate them so much. Why do I hate them? Because they're way to good. They make me so jealous. I want my comics to be so personal and raw. I want my art to be a beautiful blend of reality and cartoon that screams gorgeous. Asaf Hanuka art and story telling is amazing. It makes me so mad that he's is making such wonderful comics about how he perceive reality. Everyone should read these comics and think about their life.

More of Hanuka's surrealist strips of life in Tel Aviv, Israel, with his wife and two kids, as he navigates raising a family and maintaining a career as an artist. His skewed view illuminates seemingly mundane situations. Life takes on a sharper edge when the tensions in the region come to the forefront. These darker moments, set against the humorous exploits of his children, show the full spectrum of his world.

A masterclass in layout, design, color, and storytelling. Juuuuust as good as the first Realist book.

Some of the strips aren't funny or are heavy-handed, but sometimes one really lands. But what never lags is Asaf's art, always lovely. Linework, color, expressions. Beautiful.

Just as good as volume 1. Hanuka has an incredible visual imagination that reminds me at times of Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes), but with a more political bent.
