This is a volume full of action as Mashiro and Takagi compete for the Gold Future Cup in order to get a chance to get a serialization in Shonen Jump. Because of its focus on action, the intensity ramps up and I am actually less interested in what goes on, ironically. We do get to know (and like) much of the chief competition, so that's pretty interesting, at least. Girlfriend Miho, who is working on her career to become an anime voice actress, continues their agreement to not get together until they have both accomplished their dreams, which is annoying, but the depiction of the other girlfriend Kaya is even more annoying, mainly brainless eye candy for the fanboys, which is of course a typical feature of shounen. But on the whole this continues to be entertaining.

This volume is probably one of my favorites. There's a fair amount of new characters that all contribute to the story.I also love how none of them ever give up despite failing so many times.

Shujin and Mashiro get their own detective series, yay! They have a fight, but it is quickly resolved as they have very similar "frequencies".

My main review, that applies to most of the series, can be found here. It's much better than this one.Overall, I'm not finding much to say about this volume. There's no outstanding misogyny to complain about this time - apart from an annoying panty shot scene - and Eiji doesn't do much, so no fangirling ensues.I will say that the beginning of this volume was definitely weaker than what we've seen so far. Having Mashiro and Tagaki split up felt like a gimmick - and a weak one at that - to keep things interesting. It was cliched and pointless. The arc has no real lasting consequences for the characters, and it's annoyingly predictable. Thankfully, it only lasted around 50 pages, so it wasn't too painful. Still, it would've been better without it.On a more positive note, I liked the perspectives that Ohba juggles when writing about the Golden Cup competition. Koogy wasn't very developed (probably because Ohba hates singers who try to write manga), but a reader could reasonably sympathize with Ashirogi Muto, Fukuda, and Nakai all at once. It's not exactly the moral complexity that Death Note featured, but it's nice that he doesn't make his recurring side characters into villains. Other than the first 50 pages of this volume, there are very few cheap tricks (such as vilifying side characters) used to heighten the tension, and I appreciated that. The manga is interesting all on its own, because the characters are well-developed, and it's cool to learn about the manga business. I'm glad that Ohba lets things flow naturally keeping that focus, for the most part.Overall, though, this was one of the weaker arcs, despite no outstanding misogyny, mainly because of the first 50 pages. Still, this was certainly not a bad volume - it's another strong entry into a very interesting series.

Still a good installment in the series, though I did have some issues with it. The art got really weird in a few places, with Saiko, Shujin, and Fukuda getting some really creepy facial expressions. I know that this is a book, and that is the reason why it seems so easy for these two rookies to get a series in Jump so quickly (well, relatively quickly, anyway) it just sometimes seems that luck is always on their side sometimes.I'm really disappointed with what the creators have decided to do with Miyoshi. She's really only a cheerleader now, with no real aspirations of her own. She only hopes that Saiko and Shujin will be successful, hope that Saiko and Miho get married, and that one day she and Shujin will get married. This change in her character along with her obvious status as becoming the eye-candy in the manga is starting to really irritate me. I saw potential in her for the first two volumes, still a bit with the third, but it seems that everything that made her interesting has been dropped so that she is basically the large breasted girlfriend and cheerleader.I'm pretty sure that I know the twist that is supposed to come in the next volume, as it was pretty blatantly foreshadowed a couple of chapters back. Overall, okay, with just a few mildly disappointing parts.

Me fascina Bakuman!

Ceritanya makin seru, tapi rasanya sedikit aneh ngeliat gambar Manga dalam Manga. kaya liat seseorang liat photobook gitu. tapi, yah keren lah!!

The dynamic duo of Mashiro and Takagi are back to being Muto Ashirogi and are ready to take on the Gold Future Cup in order to get a chance to get a serialization in Shonen Jump. It is interesting to see the break down of how the rookie cup works, what the votes mean, and how it determines the ranks of all the manga in one issue. The tension mounts as they race against the clock in order to get their storyboards in on time and then the waiting game they have to play as their fate is decided by their fans. Very exciting volume and also very informative.

I find this series so interesting because never would I have thought that a manga about manga could ever be interesting, and yet it is. The characters are interesting and the story itself is really informative. Sometimes the series is a bit of an info-dump in terms of "LOOK AT ALL THE THINGS HERE!" and the panels can get cluttered and difficult to follow, but overall it's a pretty solid series.

Less fan service than the previous volume with Kaya flashing her panties a few times. The boys are gearing up to compete with the other rookie manga artists for a contest and a shot at their own weekly series. Miho hits a bump with her singing career when the job demands more of her looks than her voice.

This is a very exciting book in the series!! Full of lots of action and a bit of intersecting stories from the other characters and their manga stories of choice.Plus our main guys love interest has a moral dilemma as she wishes to push her voice acting career forward. Lots of "..." is happening, filling volume 5 with tuns of potential.

Honestly I don't care a bit about Azuki and Mashiro. In fact, and this is an issue I found in some shounen, girls are kind of irritating and totally irrelevant to the story. Ok, not irrelevant, but they are by far the least interesting characters and completely useless. But Niizuma has completely won me over, and although he barely has any scenes here, they were the best.

I really like that crazy mangaka guy, he's awesome! Wish I could like the MCs more but they're just...not as awesome (though they are). Can't help but feel like the VA girl isn't really getting anywhere, I mean she can't sing and it looks like she was accepted just because she's cute...don't really like her, esp considering all the work the two MCs are putting into their dreams

I'm finding that the more manga I read, the more I like this one.In this volume, Ashirogi gets back together and 3 groups (well 2 groups and 1 solo creator) compete in the Gold Future Cup, getting first place all but guarantees them their own series. I love that this manga is so fast paced. I never get bored with it, even if I am a little weirded out by the Azuki romance.

This series continues to impress me with it's high attention to detail, engaging characters, top notch artwork, and practical but entertaining exposé on the amount of work involved in making manga for a living. Yes, it's a fantasy, but I love it.

Fairly well drawn - though I don't like the characterization of Ko Aoki very much. From the writing, I don't get why she's wanting to write for Shonen Jump, as opposed to (to use another Shueisha magazine) Margaret, since she specifically comes across like she doesn't like Shonen manga.

I love this series for the way it looks into the manga creation process past even the mangaka. The different personalities of the editors along the way along with what they also have to do make for a very interesting series.
